Maria Helena P. T. Machado
Full Professor in the History Department at USP (University of São Paulo) and CNPq productivity researcher 1B. Graduated in History from the University of São Paulo (1979), Master (1985) and Doctor (1991) in Social History also from USP. She was Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and Visiting Fellow at Harvard University. She is the author of dozens of books, chapters and articles in Brazil and abroad on the social history of slavery, abolition and post-emancipation. She was a researcher (Sabbatical Year Scholar) at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IEA) at the University of São Paulo. He has extensive research experience in archives in Brazil and the USA, with emphasis on the following themes: crime and slave resistance, abolitionist movements, scientific trips and debates about race. He currently develops projects on slavery and gender, slave revolts and religious practices of slaves, freedmen and popular sectors from the mid-19th century to the present day.
